I am Jiby John Kattakayam- Software Engineer by profession and idler-par excellence by self-realization. I come from
the state of Kerala in India, challenging the likes of Switzerland and New Zealand in natural beauty but abounding with a
most stupid race of people prone to hartals, suicides, consumerism beyond means and communism beyond its prescribed shelf-life.
My schooling was at the Loyola School, Trivandrum. Its a school which has produced scores of super-achievers every
year for the last 40 years and the pride and arrogance me and my classmates feel about our alma mater is reflected in the talents
many of us have been able to develop from our years there. I was a shy and introverted kid for much of my childhood but
the onset of adolescence coupled with the influence of my friends here helped my metamorphosis into the current
avatar!!! Our bonding just gets stronger with every passing year.
From there I moved on to the SCT College of Engineering to study computer engg but apart from scratching around trying
to get somewhere close to being called a programmer those years stand forever fresh in memory for studying in a
most lively and fun-loving class of boys and gals, especially being part of a 10 member gang of lovable rogues who
went by the name of Savages. I will always remember the six years starting from my 11th standard to the eighth semester
of college as the most happiest and eventful phase of my life.
After college I moved to the US, and completed by Masters in Computer Science from the University of Southern California
in Los Angeles. The two years spent here were tough and I was short of motivation but by the grace of god I graduated this
May.Anyways good things that happened here were I learnt cooking, the meaning of hardship, what poverty and going hungry days
on end means and also giving me a set of good mallu friends.
After graduation I moved to San Diego, with a job as Software Engineer at a startup firm called SMS.ac. The work hours
were from 8am-8pm and work was tough and pay was bad.But I learn a lot of stuff there than 6 yrs sepnt in coll and univ. I
did a lot of exciting programming in C# and .Net and hundreds of people around the world actually used and keep using
the apps I built there. But the strain got to me and one fine day soon after my 24th birthday I quietly left the
place, spent 6 weeks frantically looking for the next job before M&H came calling.
Four months at M&H went by and in dire need of a more challenging job combined with the loneliness i experienced in San
Diego compelled me to head back to my home base in the US, Los Angeles where I had my sis and loads of good friends just
waiting for me to get back. What followed was another 6 weeks of job search, an ill-fated job that lasted just a week only
for the crowning achievement of my short career to come calling in a few days, the Universal Music Group and man...if i thought
SMS.ac was baptism by fire the first few months here felt like Hell's Purgatory...I have found the horizons of my programming
experience broaden beyond my wildest imaginations and despite my confidence to do well henceforth,an approaching 25th birthday
and the thought of my calling lying elsewhere leaves me restless and unsettled.

Slice of Life!
Until sometime back I regretted becoming a programmer, but nowadays
my interest in it is growing as I gather more experience. My cribbing reminded me of the old saying...You may not be
able to turn back the clock; but you can always wind it up again.
